Door to Door: a travel guide for disabled people
Who we are
The information on this website was originally provided by 'Tripscope' a registered charity established in 1987, which was the UK's main travel advice and transport information service for disabled people until lack of funding forced it to close in March 2006. Following closure of the charity, arrangements were made by Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) to ensure the information contained in this website continues to be regularly updated. If you have any comment or information to help us keep the site up to date and accurate, please see the How you can help keep this site up to date section.
Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC)
The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) is an independent body established by the Transport Act 1985 to advise Government on the transport needs of disabled people. For more information on DPTAC visit the website: dptac.independent.gov.uk/.
DPTAC covers the whole of the UK, however devolved issues are dealt with by committees with a similar remit to DPTAC in:
- Northern Ireland: The Inclusive Mobility and Transport Advisory Committee (IMTAC)
(The IMTAC website home page has a "Travel Advice" button which takes you to "Getting Out & About" a guide to accessible transport in Northern Ireland www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/people-with-disabilities/motoring-and-transport-1.htm)
DPTAC has published its most Frequently Asked Questions on accessible transport; we have also published Handy Travel Hints for Disabled People and Persons with Reduced Mobility that you may find useful.
Disclaimer: This website gives information on where to go for travel advice and information in England only, but suggestions and tips can be used by all. Those starting their journeys in other parts of the UK may wish to consider contacting the relevant transport department for advice.
